New Chalkboard Decor Elements

Stampin' Up! came out with a new style of Decor Elements wall decor: chalkboards! Available in a variety of sizes and shapes, you can make any surface a chalkboard! When you're done, just take it off and your wall remains the same underneath.

I thought that these would make great Valentine's Day gifts for my daughters this year. In January when the new Decor Elements catalog insert came I showed it to them and asked them which ones they thought they'd choose for their rooms if given the chance. Then, about a month later, I placed an order for the ones they'd chosen. I decided to go with the Medium size since it was mid-range on both price and size. Since it happens to also be Sale-A-Bration time as well, I earned myself a free stamp set, which I ordered in clear mount in order to try out the new clear blocks from SU.

Here are some photos of the new chalkboard Decor Elements from Valentine's Day morning:

They could not figure out what could possibly be in the cardboard tubes. They'd never gotten a gift in such a shaped box before.

And initially the cardboard tubes provided more entertainment than I'd imagined!

Caroline has her own room. She chose the "Arrow with Cogs" design which in medium size is

28 5/8" x 13" for $16.95. It rubbed on so easily and the girls were practically shaking with anticipation as I peeled the backing off!

Elizabeth and Alexandra share a room. We put their designs, a Hippo (Alex's) and a Thought Bubble (Liz) on their bedroom door.

Sidewalk chalk works great for these and the kids are thrilled to be able to "do chalk" as they call it, in the middle of winter when normally we can't play with it til spring in the driveway!

Decisions, Decisions: Sarah Palin vs. Joe Biden, Holiday Mini vs. Phase Two Decor Elements

My First Decor Elements Experience

Isn't this beautiful??  I finally played with my Decor Elements products yesterday.  Of course I had to pick the biggest one to start out with!  I ordered several to start with because as demonstrators of course we get to place our orders first!  This one is called Flourish Frame (Item #114111 $16.95) and in the catalog it is shown with a solid chocolate brown center.  However, it is designed so that you can use that solid chocolate brown center separately if you'd like, so I did.  I chose to put one of the chocolate Baroque Medallions (Item # 114134  $8.95) in the center instead. 

The most important thing that I found when using them is that you need to read the directions on the front AND the back of the sheet that comes with the Decor Elements!  I was so anxious to get started (I'm ALWAYS like that) that I missed the back and missed an important step about using the Decor Elements Applicator to rub the image from one sheet to the other in order to put it on the wall with ease.  However, even with missing that step, it still came out beautifully!  You'd never know by looking at the photo above, but this is in my downstairs bathroom.  Look below for a different angle.

Now you can tell it's in the bathroom!  This was a room that we did NOT want to spend a lot of money decorating and therefore, it's remained pretty empty of decorations since we added a bathroom to our downstairs in 2005.  These Decor Elements were the perfect answer!  I was able to add just enough decoration for very little money.  The chocolate color was a perfect match for our paint colors which are a very light coffee color and a beige trim.

Finally, here is the solid chocolate inner image from the above Flourish Frame.  I mentioned that I used the inner image separately from the outer frame.  This is a textured wall in my office and since I know that many places in our country only use textured walls in their houses, I thought it'd be a good place to try out the Decor Elements to see how they worked on textured walls.  I had no problem at all adhering this image to the textured wall.  I then put the white Baroque Medallions image in the center.  This is way up on the wall above my desk.  (*Please note that the words Stampin' Up! are NOT Decor Elements letters.  They are on a sign from a trade show I did, but it blends right in so you can't tell.)

Tuesday, July 1, 2008 is the first day that Decor Elements is offered to the public for sale!  If you have not seen the brochure, beginning on July 1 you will be able to view it on my Stampin' Up! website.   If you have any questions about this new product line, please feel free to ask!  One of the reasons that I did the preorder was so that I could try out the product myself before my customers had a chance to, so that I could truly see how it worked before selling it to you!  I know now though, you're going to LOVE it!
