Guest Stamper: Stacey Sheehan's Girly Grad Gifts

I often refer to my great stampers' clubs in my blog posts.  I have two of them.  One meets in the Exeter-West Greenwich area and one meets in the Greenville area. 

Yesterday, I received an email from Stacey Sheehan, one of the members of the Exeter-West Greenwich club.  She shared with me some photos of some of the projects she's been working on lately.  I wanted to share a few of them with you.

It's graduation time, and now is when many people are attending graduation parties and giving out graduation cards and gifts.  Stacey had a great combination of "Girly Grad" gifts that I just had to share.  Here's the first photo:

 

Stacey used a great combination of colors for girls: pink and orange in her card.  She also used a stamp set that you can get now for just a couple of more weeks, Great Grads.  It's found on page 46 of the current catalog and it's $24.95.  I love how the graduation cap is pink and the words are orange.  I also loved the added pink brads that Stacey used from the set of Soft Subtles brads. 

 

Stacey's next gift is a note card holder with notecards and envelopes.  She did a set of monogrammed cards.  Although I believe this set of letters is the retired Letterbox Alphabet set, we have such a wide variety of alphabet sets on pages 144-148, you're sure to find one that you love.  Again, Stacey incorporated the pink and orange color scheme for this gift.

 

Finally, here is Stacey's last part of her Girly Grad gift.  It's a gift card holder.  Again, it incorporates the same color scheme as the rest of the gift.  It uses the Great Grads stamp set again, and the congratulations is the from the free Sale A Bration Congrats stamp set that we received this past winter. 

This set of gifts and cards is perfect for a graduation gift, and can be altered for a boy gift, just by using a different color scheme.

Elizabeth's Wizard of Oz birthday invitations

I don't often make anything that's not stamped or doesn't at least use Stampin' Up! products.  But, I wanted to share Elizabeth's birthday invitations even though they are just that-- not stamped at all.  She wanted a Wizard of Oz themed birthday party and I looked at my supplies and realized I just didn't have what it would take to create them.  So, I went off to Michaels Crafts and browsed through their supplies.  I grabbed a few red 12x12 papers as close to our Real Red as I could find, although not nearly as sturdy, and I found a clearance rack that had 12x12 yellow similar to our Yo Yo Yellow but it was dry embossed with stars.  I thought that'd be a perfect paper to use for the yellow brick road that I had in mind.  I found packs of stickers of all the characters and I was good to go.  Here's a sampling of my final product:

 

To make the yellow brick road, I have a paper cutter from Creative Memories that's several years old.  I'm not even sure if they sell it anymore.  It's the only thing I've ever purchased from that company, but I do love it.  Elizabeth placed all of the stickers on the yellow brick road and she got such a kick out of it and told me for each one, who it was for, and why she was choosing the stickers that she was for that particular one. 

In the wording, I wrote "Follow the yellow brick road to..." and the address for the party.  My words are typed in a Stampin' Up! font, so I guess it's not totally non-Stampin' Up!, but for the most part, I was in unfamiliar territory!  I was pleased with how they came out though, so that's why I wanted to share them here.

Tiles, kids, tiles, kids and more tiles!!

So I took my own advice, and decided to make tile trivets for end of the year gifts for all of our teachers, aides, bus drivers, Don's secretaries, and anyone else we usually give an end of the year gift to.  I bought four boxes of tiles on Wednesday because I actually had the whole day free until 4pm.  I needed three of the tiles by 4pm though, and four for the next day, so I had to buy them and get started right away. 

I was originally going to make all 16 tiles exactly the same and use the Inspired By Nature stamp set as I had at my last club:  Really Rust flowers, Always Artichoke for the grass and the words.  My two younger girls were home from school and when I first started, they were playing nicely and I got eight stamped pretty quickly and started baking them.

Once they saw that I was stamping something though, playtime was over and they wanted to make them too.  It takes everything I have to give up control of these types of thing, and truly it IS easier and faster if I do it myself. 

 

But really, who can resist these faces??  They were just watching and watching, sitting up on the counter, and holding on for dear life so they wouldn't fall off.   I couldn't do it.  I had to let them help and I had to let them choose their own colors too.  I told them they could each make one, the one for their very own teacher and then I'd continue on making the rest. 

Of course, I had my camera right there, and we took turns capturing the gift making turned stamping tiles class event. 

 

Alexandra went first.  She chose Pumpkin Pie for her flowers and kept the Always Artichoke for her grass and words. 

  

I had to "help," though.  I couldn't let any smudging happen or we'd waste a tile and I didn't want to risk that.  I tried to keep my helping to a minimum though. 

 

Here's her almost finished product.  

  

Elizabeth went next and she totally shook up my color scheme, choosing Cameo Coral for the flowers, Old Olive for the Grass and Taken with Teal for the words.  Crazy!!  Of course, she has an eye for color because they came out beautifully, and were my favorites of all the ones we did.  I ended up making five more.

 

I didn't get to do quite as much "helping" here because now I was needed to hold Alexandra up on my knee so she could take the picture.  (Are you picturing what an undertaking this project was?)

 

Here's the first "batch" of tiles.  Alexandra's is at the top on the left and Elizabeth's is next to it.  I think she did more than one, maybe two of them.  But as I said, I loved the color scheme and made a few myself.  I had them use a Sharpie to sign the back and I dated them as well.

The next batch that I did used Ruby Red for the flowers and Handsome Hunter for the grass and the words.  I have four of those on this tray and then my original color scheme of Rust and Artichoke is at the bottom.

 

I love how they all came out.  I was glad in the end that I let the kids take part in it.  It taught them something new, let them spend some fun time stamping with me, and let them be a part of their teachers' end of the year gifts.  But wow.  Here's what the top of my stove looked like at one point:

 

And, to top it off, I still need four more tiles, AND Caroline now wants to make her own for her teacher as well, since she's in school all day and missed our tile trivet kids' class.  So that'll be one of the four that I pick up this weekend.  All in all though, for 20 gifts, I will have spent about $40 total including the tiles and the felt feet for the bottoms of them.   So it's cost efficient and personal and a useful gift to top it off.  I'd say that's all you can ask for!

Handstamped Marble Tile Trivets: a Stampers' Club Project

I decided we should take a break from the Retired Accessories List for tonight. I will post the latest update tomorrow night.  Instead, I have been dying to show off last weekend's Stampers' Club project!  My friend Erin was the hostess of the club for May.  When I first met her, over a year ago, she fell in love with my handstamped marble tile coasters that I had on display at a craft show.  Now, she makes them herself and sells them or gives them as gifts.  It's only appropriate that she chose a similar project for this month's club project.  Instead of making 4x4 marble coasters, we decided to do 6x6 marble trivets. 

I brought several sets of stamps with me that were good for stamping on tiles and all of the craft inks that I own.  I have many colors in the regular sized pads and I also have the Earth Elements and Rich Regals in the Craft Stampin' Spots, since those are the colors I tend to use the most on my tile coasters.  They show up the best and have a good variety of colors in their palettes. 

The best thing about this project is that even when people used the same stamp sets, their trivets still came out unique and different from the rest.  Here are the trivets:

 

This is Nikki's tile.  She used Inspired By Nature with Elegant Eggplant and Always Artichoke Craft Pads.  As you'll see later on, I totally copied hers.  I just changed my colors. 

 

This is Jolene's.  She used Snow Swirled, which is one of my favorite sets for the holidays.  She also used Handsome Hunter, Night of Navy, and Rose Red Craft Pads.  Two members of the club were absent this time, so for their trivets, I copied Jolene's and made them each a Christmas trivet for the holidays. 

 

Donna used the Pick A Petal stamp set, and she used Elegant Eggplant, More Mustard, Really Rust, and Taken with Teal Craft Pads.  I love her color combination!

 

This one is Erin's, the hostess of the club.  She also used the Pick A Petal stamp set, and liked it so much, it was part of her order that day as well.  She used Really Rust, Taken with Teal, and More Mustard Craft Inks on hers as well.  By the way, there is no particular order to how I am posting these, I am posting them in the order I took them, I think!  I don't want anyone to think I am playing favorites!! 

 

Last but not least, is mine.  I copied Nikki's idea, using Inspired By Nature.  The colors in my dining room are cranberry and green, so I used Bravo Burgandy and Always Artichoke for my colors.  I have this on my table all the time, and it's gotten quite a bit of use already.

I realized as I was uploading these, that I did not get a photo of the one that Nikki's mom, Denise made.  I don't know why.  She also used the Inspired By Nature stamp set and she used Chocolate Chip Craft Ink for her flowers and Sage Shadow Craft Ink for her grass. 

All of the trivets were beautiful and I love them as a gift or to keep!  It's the end of the year and I often struggle with what to give for end of the year gifts at school.  I think that these would make great gifts for the kids' teachers.

I purchased my tiles at Home Depot.  They came in a box of four and were about $5.99 per box.  When I buy them, I always take out all of the tiles to make sure none are cracked and that none have big divets in the middle of them. 

Here's the "recipe" for the tile coasters or trivets:

Stamp with Craft Ink Pads.

Place on a cookie sheet.

Bake in oven at 325 degrees for 10-15 minutes.  You'll be able to check and see if they are dry when you pull them out.  If the ink still looks wet, then leave them in for a couple of more minutes.

Cool for 10 minutes or so, and then take outside or to a well ventilated area and spray them with an acrylic sealant spray.  I like the glossy look but there is also a matte spray finish as well. 

Once sprayed two times, you can add the felt circles to the bottom, providing "feet" for your trivet or coasters so that they do not scratch the surface that you have them on.

June 1st: A Big Day at Stampin' Up! The Retired Lists are Out!

June First...a big day at Stampin' Up!  The Retired list of stamps is out, the Retired List of Accessories is out too.  As demonstrators we got to see and pre-order a Sneak Peek of some of the new stamp sets, accessories and hostess sets from the upcoming 2009-2010 catalog! 

I know you are very curious as to what's retired, so here's the list of stamp sets.  Please note, I DO NOT own all of these sets.  There's been some confusion in the past that when I post a list of stamp sets that I have those sets and am looking to sell them.  This list is for your convenience only, I don't own them all!  I will be selling off what I do own, at my July Open House though, so if you attend you will see what I have at that time.
